Grade Classification / Starting Pay
Fire Grade 2, Level 5, $36,621.31 (Firefighter l&ll certified)
Plus 11 paid holidays, one personal holiday after one year of service, and possible overtime (non-exempt employee)
Insurance for firefighter with the firefighter paying premiums from each pay period.
Description of Basic Duties
Selected candidates will be required to perform a variety of duties, such as firefighting, emergency medical calls, vehicle extrication, routine maintenance, cleaning of fire district buildings, operate emergency vehicles in a safe and defensive manner, meet physical aspects of the job, and perform other duties as the job requires.
Education Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent GED Certificate
State Certified Firefighter I & II (IFSAC and Proboard included) OR, Complete and Pass Firefighter I & II, Awareness and Operations within 1 year of start date.
Physical Requirements
Applicants must be in excellent physical condition
Other Requirements
Must be a United States citizen, at least 18 years of age and possess a valid driver's license.
Must successfully pass the following examinations and board interviews: Written Fire Entry Exam, Physical Agility Test, Interview Board, a background investigation and a medical physical examination. All qualified applicants will be notified of their eligibility and date to test. The exam will be administered within 2 weeks of the closing of the application deadline. The testing will take place at the Rolla Rural Fire Protection District, 1575 East Lions Club Drive, Rolla MO 65401. The physical agility test MUST be completed in under 6 minutes. The written exam which must be completed with a minimum score of 70%. The interviews will also be conducted on the same date if the applicant passes the written exam and physical agility test.
Must reside within 60 miles or 60 minutes from Rolla, Missouri within 90 days of appointment.

Applications must be RECEIVED prior to June 12, 2026.
No prior experience is required to volunteer with RRFPD. The first step is to fill out an application and drop it off at our office. Next, you’ll be interviewed by a panel of firefighters, who will send their recommendations to our fire chief. If approved by the chief, you’ll complete the necessary paperwork, undergo a drug test, and pass a background investigation. Once everything is cleared, we’ll notify you by phone or email that you’ve been accepted as a probationary volunteer.
As a new volunteer, you’ll attend weekly training sessions on Tuesday nights from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm and work through our Personal Qualification Standards (PQS) skill book. After completing the PQS and a six-month probationary period, you’ll be evaluated to determine if you can be removed from probation.
